The main objective of the Constitutional Dialogue Project is to exchange views on political governance including the systems of governance, constitutional design, separation of power, systems of Islamic governance, constitutional interpretation authority, citizens’ constitutional right, human rights issues, and the like. We aim to achieve this by inviting the most prestigious and knowledgeable experts in the fields of constitutional law and Islamic law in Afghanistan coming from different segments of society. The participants come to the dialogue in their personal capacity as legal scholars. With this in mind, the dialogue will aspire to identify areas of consensus and divergence of views on constitutional issues along with the supporting legal arguments. Where possible, the group may and is encouraged to build consensus. The discussion should be ‘content-focused and technical’ as much as possible and document a variety of views on constitutional issues among the participants.
